Technical requirements for API 5L pipelines, API 5CT casing and tubing

(1) API SPEC 5L "Line Pipe Specification" of the American Petroleum Institute;
(2) International standards ISO 3183-1, 2, 3 "Technical Conditions for Delivery of Oil and Gas Steel Pipes";
(3) For some important long-distance pipelines, there are their own supplementary procurement technical conditions according to the specific use environment.

API 5L Seamless Steel Pipeline

According to the provisions of API SPEC 5L, steel pipes are divided into two product levels, PLS1 and PLS2, and different technical conditions are specified for these two types of products. The main difference is: compared with PLS1 and PLS2 levels, strength requirements are specified for carbon equivalent, fracture toughness, maximum yield strength and maximum tensile strength. The control of harmful elements such as sulfur and phosphorus is also more stringent: non-destructive testing of seamless pipes has become a mandatory requirement. The content that must be filled in the warranty and traceability after the test are completed have become mandatory requirements.

API 5L Gas and Oil Pipe

 The classification and main differences of steel pipes in the ISO 3183 oil and gas transmission steel pipe standard

In the ISO 3183 oil and gas transmission steel pipe standard, steel pipes are divided into three parts, A, B, and C, according to the differences in quality requirements, also known as the three-level requirements of A, B, and C. The main differences are: in the ISO 3183-1A grade standard requirements, basic quality requirements equivalent to the provisions of API SPEC 5L are formulated, and these main quality requirements are universal; in addition to the basic requirements, the ISO 3183-2B grade standard requirements add requirements on toughness and non-destructive testing; there are also some special uses, such as acidic environments, marine conditions and low temperature conditions, which have very strict requirements on the quality and testing of steel pipes, which are mainly reflected in the IS0 3183-3C grade standard requirements.
